Rehler Vaughn & Koone, Inc. (RVK), assisted in bringing to life and fulfilling the Texas Center for Athletes’ (TCA) long time vision of bringing a premier sports-centered medical facility to the region. A group of physicians with a longtime association with professional athletes, including the San Antonio Spurs, commissioned this 133,630 s.f. four-story medical office building.
The facility rests along the north edge of the South Texas Medical Center and adjacent to the Spurs training facility. The Center’s sleek design is imbued with an architectural flair that fittingly captures the essence and spirit of the athlete. A broad canopy set against the long low arch of the main entry begins the dialogue of athletic expressions.
The TCA is a cooperative effort between a group of local physicians with the makeup of a medical consortium specializing in fields of orthopedics, otology, neurotology, plastic surgery, cosmetic dentistry, internal medicine, hand surgery and rehabilitation. The TCAs’ mission is to offer a professionally staffed, full-service, medical facility that includes an on-site 15,000 s.f. ambulatory surgical center, a 7,800 s.f. radiology suite, and a high performance pharmacy.
Situated on the perimeter of San Antonio’s thriving medical center community the unique TCA building design coupled with their various in-house medical specialties signifies the next generation of Class-A medical office buildings planned for the area. The overall design enhances the client’s originating concept while offering exceptional value in a practical sense.
Rehler Vaughn & Koone, Inc. (RVK) is a San Antonio based design firm offering professional services in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and computer visualization.
The firm was established on January 1, 1971, by Architect Ken Rehler (1942-2005). In 1976, the office was incorporated when Architects George P. Vaughn and John W. Koone became partners. Mr. Rehler, Mr. Vaughn and Mr. Koone worked together continuously for 32 years.
