CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills - May 6, 2010

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills recently announced the opening of an inpatient pediatric unit, a service brought to the Westover Hills community by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, as the newest component of its children’s services.

The colorful, kid-friendly unit is now offering state-of-the-art general medical and surgical care for young patients. The physicians and staff of the pediatric inpatient unit are highly skilled in working with a wide variety of diagnoses in patients ranging from newborns to teenagers.

“The addition of the pediatric inpatient unit will make access to children’s care easier for residents of this area of San Antonio” said Jeff Bourgeois, FACHE, Vice President and Administrator, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. “We are complementing the high quality care offered at CSRH-WH to include pediatric care close to home. Our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, and that includes the children of Westover Hills.”

The pediatric inpatient unit will provide treatment for routine diagnoses such as pneumonia and RSV with supplemental oxygen, diarrhea and dehydration with IV therapy, urinary tract infections with IV antibiotics, asthma with nebulizer treatments, and hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) in newborns requiring phototherapy.

Pediatric patients can receive general surgical services at CSRH-WH such as appendectomy, tonsillectomy, herniorrhaphy, circumcision, and cholecystectomy. Children requiring a higher level of care can easily be transferred to CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital by the Pediatric Transport Team, which is on call 24 hours a day.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills’ Pediatric Services are made available by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, a leader in South Texas, serving more than 150,000 children each year. Marcy Doderer, FACHE, Vice President and Administrator, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, said “The new general pediatric program at CSRH-WH offers parents and their children access to convenient, high quality care closer to home for the first time in the high growth Westover Hills area.  At the same time, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital will continue to provide the highest level of care, just as we have done for the children of San Antonio and South Texas for more than 50 years.”
